REST WEEK

January 30, 2008

Thank God there is such a thing as rest week. Time to recharge the batteries, not that i’m feeling tired so far (Touch wood). This week is mainly now about looking forward at to what i’ve to do in the next few weeks like upping my hours training. At the moment i’m doing 9/10hrs per week. I rested up on Monday & yesterday i did a short 1000m in the pool. I’m going for a nice 5-6k run today & again will be trying out the new run technique.. Things are going well so far & i seem to be doing everything by the book. All i have to do is really read up on my nutrition plan for the next few weeks & also for race day. I’ve found out that Power Bar are sponsoring the race so i’ve no to change from High Five to Power Bar drinks & food..

TRAINING

January 27, 2008

So here we are on Sunday night & another hard weekend training behind me. I rested up on Friday evening & just chilled watching CSI & reading. Saturday we met at 12 myself Mark, Rodney & Eion & we headed of into the wind. It’s not so bad when there is a group so the winds don’t seem so bad. We took it easy & were going at a nice all the way no one was feeling tired so we decided to do some hills which i hate & never have any desire to do any triathlons where hills are involved. We went up Hollywood & over & it was not so bad just took it at any easy pace. Eventually around the Blessington lakes & finally home. So all in all we covered 106K & in 4hr’s 20min even with my puncture… Felt great after & now i can really feel myself improving on the bike.

On Sunday i slept in & missed the club (PULSE) so i decided to head of myself to spin the legs out. Wind was hard again but stayed at a nice easy pace not trying to kill myself. Went towards the back of Blessington lakes & met up with the Pulse gang so headed home with them & it was nice to have company on the bike. So i did 2hr’s on Sunday & covered an easy 45k. legs feel brilliant still & looking forward to my rest week now before the build up begins in a weeks time. Anyway a good weekend training done 150k covered on the bike & not to tired.. Until next time…

TRAINING

January 25, 2008

After my day yesterday of trying my new run technique i was a little sore but had to BATTLE on…. Today i started of on swimming & did 600m of drill work & it was slow & very hard. But i was told  you have to start slow to get fast. Anyway ended up doing a pyramid swim set of 100/20/300/400/400/300/200/100 & did it a nice pace. After that it was onto the turbo trainer for 40 mins. I dread the turbo some day as it can get very boring but today i just got on & kept my heart rate very very low & kept a nice pace going & the 40min passed very quickly.. Rest day today & back out on the road tomorrow & Sunday…. Ahhhh rest………..

TRAINING

January 24, 2008

On the way home from work the weather was getting worse & the skies were darkening by the minute. But this was not going to stop me going out running in my new style. After listening to Rich at the weekend & how we should run it was interesting to put the practise into motion. When finally i was ready to go out the wind had whipped up. I started of lightly running & trying to get my new run posture going but it was taking a while & with this my heart rate was high so had to take a step back & relax. After 15 minutes i was running nice & LIGHT as the said i was to do.. By this stage the heaven’s had opened & i was soaked but kept going. I only did 5.5k but it was more to get the posture right. I was vary happy to have done it at at very low heart rate & in 33mins. My calves are sore but i was told that is going to happen  & as they say NO PAIN NO GAIN.. Roll on my next run..

TRAINING

January 23, 2008

Well after a deserved rest day on Monday i was back at it yesterday. Yesterday was swimming & after starting of trying to do my new drills i was very sluggish but after 500m i started to feel good & decided to do 2000m non stop. Went of slow but built up speed during the set then relaxed for a bit & upped for the last 400m. Felt great after finishing & did 500m warm down. All in all a good day in the pool especially after not wanting to do a tap at the start. I now need to concentrate on doing drills at the start of every session. Home after for some well deserved rest & food lots of food…..

TRAINING WEEK

January 19, 2008

Well i missed yesterday’s blog as i was running around all day getting stuff sorted before i do my training weekend. Anyway met up with our coaches for the weekend & it sounds like the weekend will be a great help. We just did a swim test last night & had to do a 400m swim as fast as we could & i was delighted to post a time of 6min 3sec & the great part of that was i knowing i can go faster & for me that brill as i’m only swimming 3 years now so at least i can see some improvement. Thats was followed by some drills & i must say i really enjoyed it & i’m looking forward to todays long session… So roll on today & i’ll keep you posted

Anyway i’m on a training weekend starting tomorrow with an 1hr 30mins swim session.. I’ll keep you posted on what & we do & how i get on…. Until then

Well i was very tired in work today & the prospect of a 10k run ahead of me was daunting. Anyway kicked into gear  on the way to the gym & surpringly felt good. Gear on & out the road for the first time since i did the Marathon. Started of huffing & puffing but felt great after 10 minutes. No major dramas on the run did 10.5k in 54 mins & it was great to be back out running on the road especially seeing that i’m going to be spending a lot more time out on the road…Ok Bed is calling me..!!
